An introduction to Urology

Urology exclusively deals with diseases of the male and female urinary tract (kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra). It also deals with male and female reproductive organs . Since health problems in these body parts can happen to everyone, urologic health is important. If you need to see a specialist urologist, you may not necessarily need surgery as many urological issues can be managed with non-surgical intervention.

Within Urology healthcare, there are a number of conditions you could experience, a few common you are likely to have heard or experienced are;

  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTI),
  • Erectile Disfunction (ED),
  • A Painful Bladder (Interstitial Cystitis)
  • An Inability to control urination (Urinary incontinence)

All these and more fall within the urology domain and no matter your concern it’s always worth booking an appointment and getting checked out by a Heathcare professional.

The services we offer

The Private Urology Unit at med(24) offers distinctive treatment pathways for multiple issues requiring Urological healthcare.

Some of the more common treatments we offer are;

1. Flexible Cystoscopy

A flexible cystoscopy is a procedure to look inside the bladder using a thin camera called a cystoscope. This is then inserted into the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body) and passed into the bladder to allow our expert urologist to see inside.

2. Urodynamic testing

A urodynamics test is used to find out how your bladder, sphincter (the muscle around the neck of your bladder) and the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body) are working. A urodynamics test can help find out the cause for bladder problems such as incontinence, or difficulty in passing urine.
